E-Government Switzerland: Cross-Departmental Processes with the Fabasoft eGov-Suite

UEDP

The introduction of the electronic management of business processes (GEVER, Electronic Business Administration) throughout Switzerland is to be completed by the end of 2011. The Fabasoft eGov-Suite is essential for the success of this project.

Today, most departments as well as the Federal Chancellery rely on the Fabasoft's GEVER standard solution "Bund", which in the client system allows each department to handle their processes without any media discontinuity and across agencies. Subsequently, cross-departmental processes in Switzerland are also to be done electronically. The subproject of the GEVER Bund program "Cross-Departmental Processes" aims to make complex communication structures readily available in electronic form. Not only organizational boundaries need to be considered in this context; the limitations of both the system and the solution also have to be taken into account. The Cross-Departmental Processes solution can be seen as a communication platform that integrates the different GEVER systems of the Federal Administration to handle cross-departmental businesses.

The conceptual phase for drafting the system requirements began in early 2010. In the course of this, Fabasoft was also invited to create a prototype based on a requirements catalog. In an evaluation process concluded during the first quarter of 2011, the eGov-Suite by Fabasoft was chosen as the appropriate software product. A base system is currently being provided which lays the foundation for implementing the processes of the requirements catalog in electronic form. The production rollout of the cross-departmental processes system is planned for April 2012.

With the Fabasoft eGov-Suite as its base, the system uses a proven software solution that provides capabilities that meet the latest technological standards – a solution that has been used successfully by the Swiss Federal Administration for many years.
